What Is Amazon Echo

Amazon Echo is a device that accepts voice commands to perform various question/answer functions along with the playing of music. Echo can currently only answer to two different wake words: Alexa or Amazon. Once the wake word has been spoken, it waits for a question or command. Some commands are:

  • Add [ITEM] to shopping list
  • Add [TASK] to todo list
  • What is the current temperature

  • Via Bluetooth, virtually any device can stream audio to it.

Amazon Echo uses cloud-based processing to handle all logic. With this being the case, the device must be connected to the internet so responses can determined. Without an internet connection, Amazon Echo would cease to work.

Currently the device is only available by invitation so as to meet the surging demand.
